Bxbn South African broadcaster makes first film investment
The30th annual Deauville Festival of American film wrapped up last night with aslew of prizes for Joshua Marston s Maria Full Of Grace. The festival favourite already honored atSundance and Berlin among others - took home the Grand Priz stanley cup e, the AudienceAward and the International Critics Prize.Thejury, presided over by Claude Lelouch and a bevy of women including AnoukAimee, Mathilde Seigner, Diane Kurys and Jeanne Labrune gave the Jury Prizeto The Woodsman by Nicol stanley cup e Kassell. The film had been presented in competitionearlier in the week by its stars Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick.Thescreenwriting award went to The Final Cut, a first film by Omar Naim. starring Robin Williams. The film was asubstitute for Bacon s directorial debut Loverboy, which was p stanley cup ulled at the last minute.The competition wasoriginally made up of ten films, but audience members got a surprise when, justprior to screening his entry Heights, director Chris Terrio announced he was removing the film fromcontention as he still had changes to make.During the 10 day festival,whose 30th anniversary was devoted to contemporary yet legendary Hollywooddirectors, such seminal talents as Steven Speilberg, George Lucas and FrancisFord Coppola dropped in to celebrate. UK documentary distributors catalogue now available on the streaming service.Dogwoof, the UKs leading documentary distributor, has announced its partnership with streaming service Netflix, which launched in the UK on Jan 9.The deal was brokered between Dogwoof founder Andy Whittaker and Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos, with many of Dogwoofs titles live on launch day. Bobby Fischer Against The World and Page One: Inside The New York Times are among the recent titles included, while catalogue hits such as Burma VJ and The Age Of Stupid are also available as part of the partnership.Whittaker commented: Dogwoof and Netflix is a great fit.
