Qvij Angelina Speare named executive vp at Warner
Its All Gone Pete Tong director Michael Dowse is setting up his next project, hockey comedy Goon, with Toronto-based super producer Don Carmody.The screenplay is by Superbad and Pineapple Express screenwriter Evan Goldberg and the increasingly visible Jay Baruchel. As the title and the writers track-records suggest, the story tickles the underbelly of semi-professional ice hockey. Carmody will produce with David Gross.As well, Carmody is prepping two sequels in his expanding franchise stable. First up is a 3D version of the fourth insta stanley cup llment of the Resident Evil brand. True to form, the film is a Germany-Canada coproduction between Constantin Film, Samuel Hadidas Davis Films and Impact Pictures. Carmody is producing with Constantins Robert Kulzer and franchise originators Jeremy Bolt and Paul W. S. Anderson. Anderson returns to direct. stanley cup Next will be Silent Hill II, a France-Canada coproduction reuniting Carmody and Davis Films with Silent  stanley cup Hill screenwriter Roger Avary writing and directing. Production begins in the New Year. Then comes Hit Girl, a horror film to be directed by Quebecois Jeremie Saindon. Carmody will produce with Andre Rouleau of Montreals Caramel Films, his coproducer on thriller DIE and Polytechnique.Carmody told ScreenDaily that Resident Evil: Afterlife will use the same 3D rig employed by James Cameron in Avatar, the Pace Reality Camera System. With the weather poised to once again be hot and sunny and the football World Cup moving into the knockout stages, UK distributors face  stanley cup a challenge on two fronts this weekend.Source: LionsgateSicario 2: SoldadoNew openers are relatively sparse, and Universals Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom could regain its weekend box office crown from Warner Bros heist comedy Oceans 8. The former dropped 55% last weekend with 拢3.2m, while the latter opened with a 拢2.3m Fri-Sun period  boosted by four days of previews to a total of 拢4.3m . If both titles see a similar drop, Jurassic World would move back to number one.The most significant new contender this weekend is likely to be Lionsgates sequel Sicario 2: Soldado, which is set to roll out  stanley kubek into 537 cinemas today. The action-packed tale of conflict between drug cartels and the US government on the Mexico-US border is garnering strong reviews and will be hoping to make a splash with audiences on its openinig night  Friday June 29  as it is the first football-free night since the World Cup kicked off on June 14.The original Sicario, which was directed by Blade Runner 2049 filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, landed with a 拢1.6m opening in the UK  also via Lionsgate  and became a success, ending on 拢5m. Lionsgate is hoping the sequel will eclipse the original thanks to  stanley cup good buzz. Its opening day will be key if it is to challenge Jurassic World.Also opening this weekend will be Disneys pug comedy Patrick, which is rolling out into more than 500 screens
