The bluest congressional district in the U.S. is located in the Bronx in New York City, bordering famous liberal Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez s district. But among the 12 contenders stanley cup vying for the open congressional seat, one of the top contenders is a con stanley cup servative Democrat Reverend Rubeacute;n Diacute;az Sr., a polarizing city councilman with a history of endorsing Republicans and making homophobic comments.Diacute;az Sr. is known for wearing a cowboy hat and courting controversy. He resisted calls to resign last year after saying the New York City Council was controlled by the homosexual community, although the committee he led was dissolved. Diacute;az Sr. has proclaimed himself to be the opposite of AOC. In 2011, Diacute;az Sr. held a rally against same-sex marriage while his granddaughter held a dueling event in support of it across the street. He voted against legalizing same-sex marriage in 2009 and in 2011, when the measure was successful. He has compared abortion to the Holocaust and said murderers, assassins and criminals are pro-choice. Diacute;az Sr. did not respond to requests for an interview by CBS News. President Barack Obama signed off Wednesday on what the White House says are significant improvements to federally funded partnerships between the government and religious-based and neighborhood organizations.A religious watchdog group disapproved of some changes and said more should be done.The group, Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, welcomed Obama s decision to require federal agencies to provide alternatives for people who don t want to receive social services at a religious charity. It also welcomed a process to make these partnerships more open and transparent by requiring that organizations that accept federal funding be listed on government websites. But Americans United said it was disappointed that the executive order Obama signed Wednesday stanley thermobecher will allow public money to go directly to houses of worship and permit publicly funded faith-based charities to display religious art, icons, scriptures and o stanley cup ther symbols.The order also does not address discrimination in hiring by faith-based charities that receive federal funds.
