U.S. births bumped up last year, but the number of babies born was still lower than before the coronavirus pandemic.The small 1% increase was the first uptick since 2 stanley cup 014. It was a bit of a rebound from 2020, the first year of the pandemic, which witnessed the largest one-year drop in the U.S. births in nearly 50 years.But there were still about 86,000 fewer births last year than in 2019, according to a government report released Tuesday.                                          We re still not returning to pre-pandemic levels,  said Dr. Denise Jamieson, chair of gynecology and obstetrics at Emory University School of Medicine. U.S. births had been declining for mo stanley cup re than a decade before COVID-19 hit, and  I would expect that we would continue to see small, modest decreases,  she said.        Officials think last year s uptick reflects births from pregnancies that had been put off during the uncertain early days of the pandemic. Deliveries were way down in January 2021, but improved as the year went on, said Brady Hamilton of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Much of the increase was seen in older moms. These are births that were postponed,  said Hamilton, lead author of the new report.The report is based on a review of nearly all birth certificates issued last year. ROCKVILLE CENTRE, New York -- A Long Island nanny was hailed as a hero Friday after she pushed a baby in a stroller out of the way of an oncoming SUV that ended up hitting her instead, reports CBS News York.Loretta Penn, 62, pushed the 9-month-old boy in his stroller out of the way o stanley cups f a silver sport-utility vehicle that turned left and struck her Thursday afternoon at an intersection in Rockville Centre. Witnesses said that she was crossing the crosswalk, the operator of the vehicle never saw her, and as she saw the car was going to strike her, she pushed the stroller out of harm s way,  Rockville Centre Police Commissioner Charles Gennario told 1010 WINS.  She knew she was going to get struck by the vehicle and had the wherewithal to p mizuno rotect the baby.           The Hernandez family was looking out the window and recording the aftermath of the accident.                                         Oh my, oh my, she was a nanny. She saved a baby,  said Ana Hernandez.Alex Antigua was among those who rushed to the scene, though there were limits as to what he could do. adidas originals          I ran outside, because I wanted to try to help everybody lift up the car. By that time, it was already kind of too late, because at that point, when we were trying to lift the car, it looked like we were hurting her more than helping her,  Antigua said.  So when I looked down, the lady was literally under the car, and then I saw the back of her head was bleeding.
