VANCOUVER 鈥?The federal government is spending more than $9.1 million to develop and test technologies that alert vessels to the presence of whales, lowering the risk of collisions.Fisheries and Oceans Minister Dominic LeBlanc says the government will also stanley fr spend more than $3.1 million on four research projects to help protect endangered southern resident killer whales.The University of British Columbia will examine how the whales have been affected by changes in the supply and quality of chinook salmon, its source of food. Another study by Ocean Wise will assess the impact environmental stressors are having on the whales, particularly noise and limits on prey. Two Bowling Green High School seniors signed Youth Apprenticeship Contracts with ML Electrical Inc. on Friday, Aug. 26.According to a release by Bowling Green Independent School District, BGHS seniors Benedek Por and Henry Lindsey signed the agreements as part of the Bowling Gre stanley mug en High Schools first-ever TRACK Youth Apprenticeship Program.The students in the TRACK Program will spend part of their school days at ML working toward their education, and also as paid employees, stated the release. BGHS industrial maintenance teacher David Loveland will work with the students for classroom requirements, then at ML, students will learn how to apply that knowledge on the job site.Both seniors will be close to finishing their first year of apprenticeship, a nationally recognized credential before graduating high school.Principal Kyle McGraw says, ML Electric has made a commitment to Bowling Green High School, to our Industrial Maintenance program, and to our community to help move Bowling Green forward with partnerships like these. Loveland says he will begin the 2022-23 TRACK program with two students and ML but hopes to expand in the future.
