In his opening statement in the first public hearings of the impeachment inquiry of President Trump, Ambassador Bill Taylor told lawmakers that he recently learned a member of his staff had overheard President Trump asking about  the invest stanley cup igations  the day after his July 25 call with the president of Ukraine. The member of my staff could hear President Trump on the phone, asking Ambassador Sondland about  the investigations.  Ambassador Sondland told President Trump that the Ukrainians were ready to move forward.  The staffer who overheard the conversation is David Holmes, a political officer in the U.S. embassy in Ukraine, three sources familiar with the matter told CBS News. Holmes is now expected to appear for a closed-door deposition on Capitol Hill on Friday. LOS ANGELES -- Residents in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Palms are upset after a vandal repeatedly destroyed a popular Buddha statue in the community, CBS Los Angeles reports. It s not something you see in every neighborhood. So I think it has touched a lot of people,  resident Amy Gallo said.Just a few months ago, the median between National Boulevard and Jasmine Avenue was littered with trash until a Buddha a statue mysteriously appeared.                                        Neighbor Steven Frankel said it s not clear where it came from, but at that point, everything changed. There was no more garbage left anywhere near it. The area seemed clean. The latest incident was last week, when the Buddha statue was decapitated.         Peo adidas samba ple are starting to come out and walk around and start to feel safe once again in this neighborhood.
