In September 2021, a lower courtroom in Curaçao dominated that preventing similar-intercourse couples from marrying violates the equality provisions of the Constitution of Curaçao, however left the decision of whether to legalise similar-sex marriage up to the Parliament of Curaçao. On 12 July 2024, the Supreme Court upheld the lower court ruling, effectively legalizing similar-intercourse marriage in Aruba and Curaçao with quick effect.
