CLEVELAND, Ohio  WEWS  鈥?Its a book so many people know and love 鈥? Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. For 5-year-old Zion Crenshaw, the book is a much-needed escape. Its the little things that make people happy,  said mom Shawanna Crenshaw.Her six children and foster children are all patients at MetroHealth in Cleveland, Ohio. She brought Zion in for his wellness check and shots.The books in the waiting room and the books handed to him by the doctor when he leaves make a big difference.  If the stanley mug yre getting a shot, theyre sitting there reading a book, it relaxes my children,  Shawanna said.  So Im glad the books are there. Theyre in the doctor s office because of a national nonprofit called Reach Out and Read, founded in 1989 by Dr. Robert Needleman, a physician at MetroHealth. He thought about,  What if we put books in the waiting room, what would happen   And the books disappeared,  explained Lynn Foran, executive director of Reach Out an stanley drinking cup d Read Greater Cleveland.So from there, they started including them in child wellness checks. More than 200 doctors and nurse practitioners across nearly 40 locations in greater Cleveland are trained in early literacy by Reach Out and Read.There are books in the waiting room, exam rooms, and stacks and stacks of books, free to grab on your way out.Pediatrician Dr. Anna Winfield has been part of the program stanley cup  for decades. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed into law Thursday a bill that prohibits the sale of the Confederate flag and other  symbols of hate  at the New York State Fair, and bans the display of those items in public buildings.The bill was sponsored by sta copo stanley te Sen. Alessandra Biaggi, D-Bronx, Westchester, and  prohibits the state of New York from selling or displaying symbols of hate or any similar image, or tangible personal property, inscribed with such an image unless the image appears in a book, digital medium, museum or serves an educational or historical purpose. According to the bill, a  symbol of hate  is defined as  symbols of white supremacist and neo-Nazi ideology or the Battle Flag of the Confederacy. The bill also empowers the Commissioner of the Department of Agriculture and Markets to prohibit the sale of  symbols of hate  at any other fairs in New York that receive federal, local or state funding. This bill would limit the display of the Confederate flag, as well as other symbols of hate, on or within the grounds of public stanley canada  property, including fairgrounds.
